Samantha Lewes (1975-1987)
Very first girlfriend of Tom Hanks was Samantha Lewes. Samantha was an American actress. Tom Hanks met Samantha Lewes in early 1975 at California State University. At the time, both Tom and Samantha were students at the university. While studying together, they came close and became good friends. Soon, after that, they fell in love and began dating. At the time, Tom was just 18 years old while Samantha was 22 years of age. This 4 years age gap never became a problem for them. After a few months of dating, Tom and Samntha became serious about their relationship. According to media reports, Samantha was a very private person from her childhood. In 1977, after nearly 2 years of dating, Tom and Samantha welcomed their first child, Colin Hanks, who later on became actor. As of today, Collin Hanks is well recognised in hollywood as an actor, comedian as well as voice artist.
After their first child, Tom proposed Samantha for marriage, and Samantha was ready for it. Therefore after one more year, in 1978, Tom and Samantha got married. Later on Tom said in an interview that his marriage with Samantha gave him direction in his life and career. Before that he was very much distracted in his life. After that, Tom and Samantha had a very happy married life. At the time, Tom’s career also began to take off. He started getting roles in television and films. After that, Tom name became very big in hollywood. In 1982, another good news came for Tom and Samatha, when their daughter Elizabeth Hanks was born, who later on became actress and producer. Tom was very happy with his baby daughter Elizabeth. At the time, Tom and Samatha had the perfect family. However, soon, a storm was coming toward their relationship. As Hanks’s career grew, he got busy and this added strain to the relationship of Smanatha and Tom Hanks. By the mid-1980s, rumors of Tom Hanks closeness to actress Rita Wilson began circulating. This added more tension to this relationship. Ultimately, these tensions led to breakup of Tom Hanks and Samantha Lewes. Finally, in 1987 their divorce was finalised. After their divorce, Samantha stayed out of the spotlight. Later on, Samantha was diagnosed with bone cancer and she died in 2002. However, even after her death, Tom Hanks has always acknowledge her role in his early life and career.
Rita Wilson (1985-Present)
After his divorce with Samantha, Tom started dating Rita Wilson. Rita is an american actress and singer and producer. Rom and Rita met for the first time on the set of Bosom Buddies in 1981. At the time of this meeting, Tom was still married to Samantha therefore, at the time, Tom and Rita did not went public with their relationship. However, despite that Tom and Rita became good friends. At the time, it was reported Rita was attracted toward to Tom as he was a good storyteller. Later on, Tom and Rita worked together in 1985 film Volunteers. In the film, Tom and Rita played the role of lovers. Just a year later, in 1986, Tom and Rita made their red carpet debut as a couple, which officially confirmed their relationship. Fans of Tom Hanks were very happy with this new relationship. Moreover, from hereon, their relationship got serious. 2 years later, in 1988, Tom and Rita got married. And in August of 1990, Tom and Rita welcomed their first child, Chester Hanks, who later on pursued a career in entertainment. Today, Chester is established in Hollywood as a rapper and actor. In 1992, Tom Hanks name was selected for Hollywood Walk of Fame and Rita was also there with Tom to support him. Just a year later, a good news came for Tom and Rita, they were to work together again in 1993 film, Sleepless in Seattle. This movie later on got nominated for 2 oscar awards. This established Tom and Rita as one of the most powerful couple in Hollywood. In 1995, their second son, Truman Hanks was born. However, unlink his brother, Truman spends his time behind the camera as he handles Camera and Electrical department of films and TV Series. Over the years Tom and Rita have expressed their love for each other. In April of 2023, Tom and Rita celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary. Hope their love lasts forever.
